Meet Melissa

Hi, I’m Melissa Atkinson — a 200-hour certified yoga teacher, wellness advocate, and founder of The Reasonable Balance. Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York and now living in Los Angeles, I’m someone who values intention in everything I do.

My journey into wellness began after years of working in demanding roles and chasing career advancement, only to find myself feeling unfulfilled and disconnected. Despite doing everything “right” on paper, something was missing — a sense of alignment, purpose, and real presence in my life. That realization led me to explore yoga and mindfulness as ways to reconnect with myself and redefine what success and balance truly meant to me.

I created The Reasonable Balance to offer accessible, affirming, and culturally aware wellness practices — especially for communities like mine, who don’t always see themselves reflected in mainstream wellness spaces. Whether I’m leading a class, journaling alongside students, or just holding space for quiet reflection, I aim to create environments rooted in care, connection, and authenticity.
